Canadian Medicine Residents

Applicants interested in applying to our Nephrology Residency Program complete a Faculty of Medicine Postgraduate Application Form. The applicants also submit a resume, three letters of reference and a medical school transcript. Once completed, all applicants’ dossiers are summarized by the Program Director and a summary is sent to each member of the Residency Selection Committee. The Residency Selection Committee includes the Program Director, the Chief of the Division, one faculty representative from each site and a resident representative. All candidates are interviewed by the Residency Selection Committee. The ranking of the Trainees is done using the criteria established by the Postgraduate Education Committee for subspecialty resident selection. Offers are then extended to the highest ranked individual. Our program has one guaranteed position and we are given the opportunity to compete for another two positions.

International Medical Graduates

International Medical Graduates who wish to enter residency training in Nephrology must be funded through a government agency or charitable organization. The use of personal funds to fund Nephrology Training is not permissible. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario currently has residency training agreements with several government departments and agencies.

The sponsoring agency must fund the resident's salary at the rate stated in the current resident's salary agreement (see www.pairo.org). Tuition fees are also payable by the sponsor and are set on an annual basis and subject to change.

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must have completed the equivalent of three years of training in a core Internal Medicine Residency. A Pre-Entry Assessment Program (PEAP) of 4 to 12 weeks is required.

Applications can be requested by contacting the University Postgraduate Medical Education Office. Their contact information is below:
