Throughout the Nephrology Fellowship, we have a regular weekly Academic Half Day, during which, case-based seminars are given by the staff Nephrologists on topics encompassing Renal Physiology, Transplant Immunology, Clinical Transplantation, Nephrotic/Nephritic Syndromes, Hereditary Renal Disease, Renal Stone Disease and Renal Replacement Therapy. In addition to this, we have bi-monthly Renal Biopsy Rounds in which interesting cases are reviewed with our Staff Pathologists. A bi-monthly General Nephrology Journal Club provides training in critical appraisal, and not only looks at diagnostic and therapeutic trials, but also focuses on ethical and resource-related articles and issues. We also have monthly Transplantation Journal Clubs and quarterly Plasmapheresis Journal Clubs, which provide further educational opportunities to our Fellows. In addition to this, we have 4 visiting Professors a year who spend “one-on-one” time with the Fellows. The Fellows are protected from clinical duties for these sessions.

Topics for the Academic Half Day sessions change every year and are chosen by the Chief Nephrology Resident, after consultation with the other trainees, and are prepared by the attending Nephrologists.
